Health Benefit of Garden Cress Seed

Abstract

Lepidium sativum is one of the therapeutic plants which is widely cultivated in Asia, Africa, Australasia, Europe, Northern, and Southern America. It also known as garden cress and halim seed. Garden cress seed include 27% protein, fat ranging from 14 to 26%, carbohydrates from 35 to 54%, and 8% crude fiber. Garden cress seed have a remarkable amount of iron, calcium, phosphorus, folic acid, vitamins C and A. Studies proved that garden cress seed are used in several medicinal applications as a tonic for the immune system, in treating anemia, antidiarrheal, antidiabetic, antihypertensive, diuretic, antioxidant, anti-carcinogenic, anti-hypercholesterolemia, antibacterial, antifungal, anti-inflammatory, anti-osteoporosis activity, normal contraction of the muscles for healthy of limbs and heart activity, and accelerate fracture healing. Hence, consumption of garden cress seed not only fulfil nutritional needs of body but also effective in treating many health conditions.
