Abstract

This study examines the interactive effects of despotic leadership and Islamic work ethic (IWE) on the job outcomes of employees, that is, job performance and vigor. Using a time lag design, we collected data from 201 regular faculty members of private universities, Pakistan. The analysis revealed that despotic leadership significantly predicts employee job performance, but not vigor. Contrarily, IWE showed significant effects on vigor, but not on job performance. In addition, the results also confirmed the moderating effects of the IWE between despotic leadership and vigor, but not for job performance. Future directions for research and practical implications have been also discussed.
