Equivocality between Job Stressors and Medical Practitioners’ Work Engagement: The Moderating Role of Islamic Work Ethics

This study examines the impact of job stressors workload, work life conflict and safety hazards on work engagement with moderating role of Islamic work ethics on this relationship. Time-lagged data from 319 medical doctors in Punjab health department reveal that job stressors work load, work life conflict and safety hazards reduce the work engagement. Islamic work ethics neutralize the negative effect of workload and work life conflict in such that the negative relationship of workload and work life conflict with work engagement is mitigated when their Islamic work ethic is high. However negative relationship between safety hazard and work engagement is not neutralized by the Islamic work ethics. Finally, the results show the indirect effect of job stressor workload and work life conflict on work engagement is not strong at higher level of Islamic work ethics. The results of the study showed that there is negative relationship between work load and work engagement, negative relationship between work life conflict and work engagement and also negative relationship between safety hazards and work engagement. Positive relationship between Islamic work ethics and work engagement was found. Finally, Islamic work ethics mitigated the negative relationship between work load, and work engagement. Also, between negative relationship of work life conflict and work engagement.
